Tolls Analyst II (Austin, TX)

K Friese + Associates (KFA) is currently seeking a Tolls Analyst who is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Under direction, this individual will apply technical professional competency in Toll Systems, Toll Operations and relevant Toll related Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology to the investigation of transportation planning, engineering and operational needs and problems, the coordination of Toll project activities, and the preparation of plans and documents. Carries out job functions within small, project-oriented, multidisciplinary teams of toll professionals and supports direct interaction with clients within the context of project meetings, planning sessions, operations discussions, and project production and delivery. Major results expected include high-quality written, verbal and graphical deliverables in the form of reports and query results, data analyses and reporting requirements.

This unique position is located at our client’s project office in North Austin working alongside with our client, the project owner, and other vendors in a professional office setting.

Position Summary

Conducts assignments that require the investigation of a large number of variables. Duties usually include the following:

  • Develops and applies general toll planning, operational and database solutions to development or implementation problems.
  • Collaborates in the design and development of toll concepts, including requirements analysis, technology review and selection, development and communication of operational concepts, specifications development, testing, and commissioning.
  • Writes simple reports, delivers presentations, communicates concepts and deliverables to clients, and participates in quality control activities.
  • Works closely with toll systems developers and database administrators as owner’s representative.
  • Assists in the administration and maintenance of database applications; supports tuning and monitoring of database(s) as required.
  • Develops and runs recurring and ad-hoc queries and reports as needed.
  • Assists with application/user support when necessary.
  • Develops and maintains related documentation.
  • Reviews database structures, security and maintenance plans when necessary.
  • Works with multiple database interfaces.
  • Performs other such duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a toll related subject such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Transportation Planning, Accounting, Economics, Business, Law or Information Technology
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience providing exposure to information and communication technologies and/or toll operations, fiber optic communication design video systems, toll collection systems and sub-systems, toll infrastructure, electronic payment, or traffic management.
  • Toll related Master’s degree/MBA can substitute for one year of experience.

Special Skills:

Detailed understanding of the practical design and deployment of a wide range of information, communication, and toll operations technologies, including video/violations-processing, systems engineering, toll collection systems and sub-systems, electronic payment, customer service center or traffic management. Experience in ETL process design is desired. Exceptional proficiencies in Microsoft SQL and Oracle. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access is required. Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Outlook or equivalent e-mail program is desired. Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills essential, including ability to present concepts verbally. Proven ability to work with analyst teams successfully.
