IT/CAD Technician (Austin, TX)

Position Summary

The primary responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Providing general in-house IT assistance, troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Working with and managing our IT contractor to maintain office computers, equipment and server systems
  • Managing software and maintaining licensing compliance
  • Procuring and configuring workstations and laptops, as needed
  • Providing CAD support for Engineers during planning, design and construction of public works projects
  • Working under the supervision of senior staff to produce quality designs and plans, and interpreting plans from other engineering related disciplines (survey, utility, etc.)



  • General IT knowledge to set up workstations, maintain plotters/printers, install/manage software, maintain server backups, etc.
  • Cursory knowledge of Microsoft Small Business Server a plus


  • Associates degree in CAD or Engineering Design
  • Minimum of five years of experience in civil drafting and plan production
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation (V8i or later), AutoCAD, and GEOPAK
  • Ability to work within and implement CAD standards
  • Able to create professional looking exhibits and rollplots
  • Understanding of geospatial coordinate systems
  • Ability to work independently at times and as part of a multidisciplinary team at others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to build relationships with team members
